# SSD price hikes by Samsung and Kingston amid Japanese Ryzen CPU increases

Two major storage vendors are reportedly lifting solid-state drive prices by at least 10%, with the claim rooted in a supply-chain leak cited by IT Home and highlighted by Wccftech. The report suggests Samsung has notified three large domestic distributors of the price hike, which is said to be effective immediately. Earlier this month, higher-end SSDs from Samsung and Western Digital were already shown to experience stealth price increases that effectively doubled the cost on some very large capacity models.

Beyond storage, the same reporting circle pointed to sharp Ryzen CPU price rises in Japan, as reported by PC Watch. The current Zen 5 lineup has seen price jumps in the 40%–50% range in some cases, with the strongest increases hitting the Ryzen 7 9700X (about 57%) and the Ryzen 9 9900X (about 37%). Several Ryzen 9000-series models have also risen by roughly 20%, including the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which climbed about 22%.

Older Ryzen parts aren’t spared either, with major increases on select Ryzen 7000 models led by a 41% hike for the 7800X3D—the predecessor to the 9800X3D.

Analysis: a broader signal of cost pressures

These CPU price moves are substantial, but not entirely unexpected. The trend toward higher hardware costs has been ongoing, with memory and storage pricing experiencing more dramatic shifts already. The emergence of meaningful CPU price rises—though currently concentrated in Japan—raises questions about whether similar dynamics could spill into other regions.

SSD pricing, if the supply-chain reports prove correct, may continue to move upward globally rather than just in Asia. This view is reinforced by TrendForce, which forecasts NAND flash pricing could surge roughly 75% quarter-on-quarter, and RAM prices around 60% higher in the same period. If these projections hold, consumers worldwide could face a sustained period of higher costs for both storage and memory components.
